Annie Edney

Abstract Artist

Annie Edney is a British abstract painter based on the Cornish coast, whose practice is inspired by a lifetime spent close to the sea. From sailing her home coastline of Cornwall, through the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic, and to the Pacific, these voyages have become the formative lens through which she understands colour, light, and movement.

Edney's paintings emerge from the sensory memory of life on the ocean - the solitude of night watches, the stillness of a boat at anchor, and those suspended moments before a passage begins when the land dissolves into the distance. Her work seeks to hold that particular feeling between motion and pause: the vastness beneath you when looking over the edge of a boat into open water. It is a meditative, rhythmic quality that underpins every painting.

Working in acrylic on canvas, Edney builds atmospheric, peaceful compositions through fluid layering and intuitive mark-making, drawing on the shifting light, ever-changing horizons, and emotional states that define a life connected to the water.
